Emergency Procedure

If you need to report an emergency to us such as injured or escaped livestock or damaged infrastructure please follow this procedure:

  1. Call the office on 01256 381190.
  2. If no one answers, wait for the answering message which will detail the name and mobile number of the member of staff who is currently on call.
  3. Phone the on-call member of staff who will then respond accordingly.

NOTES:

  • Please do not phone a member of staff directly unless you know they are on-call.

  • If you are unsure if a particular situation qualifies as an emergency then please phone the on-call member of staff anyway so that they can make the decision on how to proceed.

  • Most importantly of all – please do not report injuries or sick animals via the blog alone – always call the emergency on-call contact.

    Thank you!

    Fri 11th April 25. (08.15 - 10.00) Found all 4 cattle, but only 7 ponies.

Apologies for recent lack of appearance.  I've been away in Northumberland and then Dublin.

Very quickly found the four cattle in D6/E6, just west of the ammo dump.  They were grazing contentedly.

I then had a search of the rest of the Common and met MoD Warden Mark, who was out photographing birds.

I found one of the ponies on her own, just off the  S-side of the main track in K4.  This was the dark pony with the white rear lhs hoof and short sock.  She came onto the main track and headed W grazing along the track sides.   I have often seen this pony alone and have heard it call out & have heard others call out to her, (I assume).  So I waited.

As, I got parallel with the above pony, I met Mark, (In photo below) again.  I did not hear any pony calls, but after about 5 minutes a number of ponies appeared on the main track coming from the East.  However, there were only six ponies in this group

They all appeared well and started grazing along the path, when reunited with the dark pony.  These seven ponies the started gradually heading west along the main track, unto the opening to the south in I4, where they all, bar one, turned in and started to graze there.  The remaining pony was contentedly grazing on the side of the main track, just beyond the opening.

I remained with this group for about 15 minutes, during which time I never heard any call from the missing pony and neither did the group call out.

I then did a circuit of  the whole common and did not find and trace of the missing pony and neither did I hear any ponies call out.  During this period, I saw the cattle again, still near the ammo dump.
