The ponies were relaxing in the shade beneath the trees north of the ammo compound, near ///face.snappy.trespass, at 11:10 this morning. They were all very friendly, coming over one by one to greet me and enjoy some strokes. Davinia, who had been lying down, had a good roll before coming over for a neck rub, rewarding me with gentle nuzzles. All the ponies looked happy, relaxed, and in good condition.
Around 11:40, Nicky arrived to take Davinia and Polly back to the farm, leaving six ponies on the Hawley Lakes reserve. I'll certainly miss them, especially the lovely cuddles and nuzzles they always shared during my visits.
The remaining ponies quickly settled after Nicky left just before 12:30. Most stayed resting under the trees, happily accepting more strokes and rubs, while a couple wandered out to graze in the sunshine along the path to the west. Yearling 283, who had become separated from the others, was grazing nearby. He soon came over to join me in the shade and enjoyed a few strokes.
By 12:45, I found the other three yearlings grazing among the trees east of the entrance near the car park. They had found a cool, comfortable spot. Yearling 276 came straight over to say hello, thoroughly enjoying plenty of strokes and a long neck rub. He then returned to grazing, allowing me to check on the other two, who were happily munching on grass and leaves. Before I left, yearling 276 returned for another round of strokes, this time enjoying a relaxing chin rub. I said my goodbyes just after 13:15, with all three boys looking happy and healthy.
When I returned to give the ponies a final check at 13:25, they had just started to emerge from the trees to graze. A couple were still resting and seemed a little reluctant to leave the shade and head out into the warm sunshine. The dark pony with the white rear sock was already grazing near ///roof.pleaser.cork, and the others soon joined her. Yearling 283 was contentedly grazing on the bank to the southwest. I said my goodbyes at 13:45.
The cows and the ponies were all good today.
Thanks Gordon! We must have just missed each other as I've been looking for two non existent ponies for an hour or so now 🤣
ReplyDeleteI saw someone with yearling 283 just as I was saying cheerio to the final pony, whom I assume was you 😊. I wandered over to say hello, but you vanished, presumably down the bank beside where he was grazing. I'd been with the ponies for a while before this though, so surprised we didn't meet. Maybe next time.
ReplyDeleteHi Gordon. Please could you give me a description of Davinia & Polly, so that I can get a full handle on which one are there/departed. I never managed to work out/remember the names. Many thanks Tony
ReplyDeleteHi Tony. The two ponies that left the site today are photos number 4 and 6 under my blog entry. I hope this helps. Have a fantastic weekend. Kind regards, Gordon.
ReplyDeleteThanks. That's great.
